On February 21, the GHS boys’ basketball team was outlasted 56-49 by Thornton Academy (17-2) in the Class AA semifinal at Cross Insurance Arena. Trailing 30-16 after three periods, senior laden Gorham mounted a furious fourth-quarter rally to cut the deficit to six points on several occasions.

The Trojans heaved a huge sigh of relief when the buzzer sounded and finally stopped the Rams’ shooters from raining 3-pointers. Jackson Fotter led all scorers with 25 points (21 in the fourth-quarter) while Cameron Holmes chipped in 11.

Looking ahead to next year, Gorham (5-15) will face the challenge of replacing seven seniors including starters Jackson Fotter, Cam Wright, Jason Komulainen and Logan Drouin along with key reserves Cameron Holmes, Andrew Brown and RJ St Cyr. Junior Kyle King, sophomore Tom Nelson and freshman Nick Strout saw quality varsity minutes and will be expected to keep the Rams in the mix once again as a contender.
