Kathy Powell, who most recently lived in Colorado, and is originally from Indiana, has spent time traveling the world and appreciating Bed and Breakfasts. Those experiences have brought her to Maine as the new owner and Innkeeper of the PineCrest Inn, the B & B at 91 South St. formerly owned by Matt and Amy Mattingly. Powell has spent the past three years actively pursuing her 25 year old dream of owning her own B & B, and in the past year worked with the “BB Team” to find the right B & B for her. In the end, she chose the PineCrest for its close proximity to Portland and to the ocean as well as the charm of the property and it’s central location in Gorham.

Powell has many plans for the B & B which she has already started implementing. She updated to high speed internet, boosting the WiFi for her guests and giving them more updated high definition TV cable options. She will continue to offer the six existing bedrooms for guests and expects to upgrade and remodel the kitchen as this is where she likes to spend her time making treats for her guests.

Her one desire is to see the community utilizing the Inn for groups, meetings and social gatherings and plans to contact USM about possible internships from students in their hospitality program. She has no plans to have a restaurant but does hope to see Gorham residents using the available space for get-togethers and special gatherings such as book groups. Powell is very excited and passionate in running her B & B and hopes that PineCrest can become more involved with the area and community.

She also brings her oldest son, Evan, 23, a recent college graduate with a degree in Exercise Sciences/Specialties and who plans to be a physical trainer in the area; currently also living at PineCrest. A younger son, Austin, is a student at Missouri University of Science & Technology.
