Nearly 25 years ago, Amy Gorsky used to frequent a consignment shop on Main Street in Westbrook to buy reasonably priced clothes for her young son Demitri. That store was small, approximately 600 square feet. One day while there, the owner told her she was going out of business. After a discussion with her husband Paul, Amy Gorsky purchased that store. And so began Gorsky’s adventure in 1993. She stayed at the location for over a decade, expanding her store to 1,200 square feet.

Gorsky purchased her current building located at 474 Main Street in Gorham about thirteen years ago. Eventually the store would grow to 3,200 square feet offering something for everyone at a reasonable price. Customers have made a point to thank Gorsky for the store and have appreciated how neat, clean and organized it is, making it easy to shop. Gorsky also purchases clothes and toys for resale. She will continue to do that for the next three months. A list of items she is accepting can be found on her Tots to Teens Facebook page here.

Gorsky said that customers are at the heart of Tots to Teens, adding that some customers who used to come in as children have grown up and now come in with their children. “The multi-generational aspect of this business is wonderful,” she said. At its peak, Tots to Teens employed eight people. There are now four, including Gorsky herself, who works 25-30 hours weekly.

At the end of 2017, Tots to Teens will be closing its doors. Gorsky’s husband, Paul, has accepted a new position in New York. While there are many fond memories in Gorham for the Gorsky family, they are excited for the coming changes. Paul and Amy Gorsky’s daughter, Natalya, was recently married and she and her husband Andrei, as well as many other extended family members live in New York. Their son, Demitri, who resides in Gorham, is also excited about the move. When asked about her feelings on the transitions coming, Gorsky replied, “It’s all good!”

The business may be taken over and remain a consignment store under new management. Gorsky said she would be happy to train any new incoming owner, however, there have already been inquiries about the building with other businesses in mind. Amy Gorsky can be reached at 615-2615 for more information.
