Public Works has had a busy season. We’ve had several promotions and new faces join the crew. The crew has worked tirelessly on multiple projects including: the water and sewer project at Little Falls Rec, the Skateboard Park, paving Mighty Street and Great Falls Road. Other roadwork projects include Paige and Shelby, Dana, Donna and Elizabeth, Balsam Lane and Finishing Line Road and College Ave, as well as overseeing the sidewalk and drainage project on Narragansett Street. 1145 catch basins were inspected and 710 were cleaned.

We’ve also made time for reading to kiddos at the Baxter Library and joining in touch-a-truck events at Baxter Library. The summer crew did a great job mowing and weed-whacking cemeteries as well as other Town properties.

The shop has also been busy. Maintaining the Town’s almost 200 vehicles and pieces of equipment is no easy task. Between inspections, routine maintenance and those problems that arise, there is not a minute to spare. The Shop Crew works very hard to make sure all Town vehicles, equipment and buses are safe for all.

As soon as winter sand is available to Gorham residents, we will post the information to Town’s Facebook page and the Town webpage. Please remember it is for Gorham residents only and is two 5-gallon buckets per storm. You will need to bring buckets and a shovel.

Please remember there is no parking on any public road or public easement roadway from November 1 to May 1, midnight to 6 a.m. or during any parking ban declared by the Public Works Department. Vehicles parked illegally or abandoned on roads are subject to towing at the owner’s expense as well as ticketing by the police. Please remove your car from the street as soon as you are aware of a snow alert.

Trash needs to be curbside by 7 a.m. the day of collection or the night before. To prevent weather and animals from making a mess of trash, residents are encouraged to purchase trash cans. Trash will not be collected if a tag is not visible or if the tag has been tampered with. Each bag must have a tag! There will be no trash or recycling collection on the following four holidays: New Year’s Day, January 1; Independence Day, July 4; Thanksgiving Day, November 24; Christmas, December 25.

Trash will be delayed one day on the observed holidays. For example, if the holiday observed falls on a Monday, trash will be picked up on Tuesday. This pushes trash and recycling collection for the rest of the week by one day. If there will be a delay or cancellation of trash due to weather conditions, we will post information to the Town’s Facebook page as well as the Gorham Town website. Subscribe to the website to get an automatic email when information is published.
