The Town of Gorham would normally plan to do an appraisal of property values every 10 years. There was a partial re-evaluation done five or six years ago but because of the enormous growth in new housing, a decision has been made by the Town Council to conduct a full re-evaluation.

Town Manager Ephrem Paraschak estimates that between 70-100 new homes are being built in Gorham annually. “The ultimate goal is not to make more money but that the assessments are fair and accurate across the board.”

Vision Appraisal has been hired to do the assessment and will notify property owners by sending a mailer to indicate when inspectors will be in their area. The assessment is a two part process with assessors looking at the outside of a structure and requesting permission to go inside. Residents who do not want to permit assessors into their homes may take interior photos of their homes and send them to Vision Appraisal.

Questions about the process can be addressed to Christina Robinson, the Town’s Assessor.
