If you’ve driven up School Street recently, you may have noticed a new business called Souped Up. Located at 29 School Street, it features soups and sandwiches. The owners, Jaycee Saldo-Giddens and Michael Giddens, feature three different soups daily during the week and four on the weekend. Most of the soups are homemade by Jaycee and she is always testing new soups to add to the menu. The soups are made in small batches with fresh ingredients. For example, Michael gets his lobster from the Portland waterfront.

Their most popular soups are, lobster stew, venison chili and chicken pot pie. Along with soup, they also offer a variety of sandwiches. The sandwiches are made to order and are also made with local fresh ingredients. So far, their most popular sandwiches are, London broil, turkey and brie, and a Cuban sandwich. Salads and desserts are also on the menu.

Jaycee makes many of the breakfast muffins and scones and they source their bread and other sweets through Toasteys Bake Shop in Westbrook. A wide variety of coffee options and cold drinks are available.

Jaycee and Michael relocated to Gorham from Florida. They wanted to come north and be part of a small community. They very much enjoy being in a town with warm, welcoming people. They have two children and look forward to making more connections with people and businesses in town, and plan to participate in the Gorham Taste Walk this spring.

Asked if they were able to hire enough staff, they related that they are fully staffed and sang the praises of their high school part-time workers.

Souped Up is open seven days a week. Hours are from 10-3 during the week and 10-5 on the weekends. Discounts are offered to USM students and faculty, Gorham School Department staff and first responders. They also offer bulk soups, for large groups or family parties, by the gallon. Jaycee would like 48 hours notice for ordering large amounts. You can contact them at (207) 222-0214 or at soupison@soupedup-gorham.com.
