Every year TD Bank locations up and down the east coast raise money for Special Olympics over a six-week period. Each branch holds different fundraisers from pizza or ice-cream sales to corn hole tournaments. One special event is to select Special Olympic athletes and their “Champions” to appear on a trading card. The cards are distributed at all TD Bank locations and sold with the goal of raising money for Special Olympics.

Evan Morrell (GHS ’19, front right), Special Olympic Athlete Jennifer Meserve (Waterboro, front left), and Unified basketball “Champion,” Sarah Stevens (GHS ’19, second from right in back row) were joined by TD Bank employees during a recent trading card campaign on June 25.

This year, Lisa Bird of Special Olympics Maine, said, “Maine was fortunate to have four athletes and their ‘Champions’ selected to appear on cards.” She added, “TD Bank in Gorham hosted a special trading card reveal/ signing day for local athlete Evan Morrell and one of his Unified partners, Sarah Stevens, as well as Special Olympic athlete Jen Meserve from Waterboro.” The “trading card celebrities,” as Bird put it, had a chance to see their cards and have an autograph signing for customers and employees who made donations to Special Olympics.

The annual TD Bank campaign typically raises close to $40,000 for Special Olympics Maine. Donations can still be made at your local TD Bank through the end of July, and results will be posted shortly after.
