Incredible softball was played this past month. For the second year in a row, the 10U Softball All-Star team clinched the state championship while going undefeated beating Saco 7-0. The team and their families traveled to SUNY NY, where they continued to dominate. They swept their pool play with wins over MA 12-2, RI 3-2, and a shut out against Vermont.
According to Tyler Berthiaume, the all-star team was one of three teams in both regions to finish up with a 3-0 record. Based on runs allowed, they started in second place in the New England bracket, getting a first round bye. They matched up against Rhode Island, whom they beat 3-2 in pool play.
Their play continued with a big win on July 29, 7-5 against Rhode Island, in part due to clutch hitting and a hard fought battle under very hot weather conditions in a New York heatwave.
On July 30 Maine and Connecticut went head to head for the New England championship. The winner (eventually CT) moved on to play the Mid-Atlantic championship for the Northeast title.
According to the Little League Facebook page, Team Maine takes home second place in New England after their first and only loss of the season. The girls are holding their heads high, as their 12-0 run put them in the top four teams out of 35,000 throughout the northeast, an incredible accomplishment to close out a stellar season. In almost 70 innings of play, they outdid their opponents, ending with 100 hits and 113 runs while only allowing 19 and 26 respectively. More importantly, they had a blast.
Thank you everyone for your support all season and for all the words of encouragement this last week. Congratulations to the girls, and a huge thank you to the coaches. Way to make Gorham proud.
