Located at the corner of Standish Neck Road and North Gorham Road, the North Gorham Public Library (NGPL) serves the surrounding community, focusing on fiction for adults and children, and providing access to much more through inter-library loan. WiFi services and computers for patron use.

Jennifer Plummer has been the director for the past 8 years, and will be leaving to go back to school. With her love of books and matching people with the right book, she’ll be missed. The library will be seeking a new director soon.

Abby McGuire conducts storytimes for children ages 0-5 years old and their caregivers every Wednesday at 10 a.m., reading books, singing songs, and doing crafts. She updates the library’s social media sites and works with town departments to cross-promote the library.

Abigail McGuire, Children’s Librarian/Marketing Coordinator

McGuire, a graduate of the GHS class of 2005, received her Master’s in Library Science from Emporia State University in Kansas. She first started working at NGPL in 2015 as a Children’s Programmer. She was there until 2017 when she left to teach technology and assist in the library at Narragansett. She came back to NGPL in April 2022 as the children’s librarian and marketing coordinator.

This year she kickstarted the first ever summer library concert series at NGPL in partnership with the Gorham School of Music. Several student musicians performed in front of the library. McGuire’s day-to-day routine includes reading books to children, checking books out, cataloging, covering books, and making flyers to advertise library programs and events.

NGPL offers a monthly book club, author talks, as well as an annual book and plant sale, an open house, trick-or-treating at the library, and a holiday craft fair.

The library also has a handful of volunteers including Kathy Corbett, Barbara Farrell, Brian Farrell, Cynthia Fullerton, Priscilla Hopkins, Marlene Scholl, and Mary Snell. The library hours are Mondays, 3-5 p.m., Wednesdays, 10-11:30 a.m.and 6-8 p.m.,and Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Find NGPL on the Internet at north-gorham.lib.me.us.
