The Gorham High golf team may not have had the stuff to win its Class A state tournament, but the Rams certainly enjoyed the ride on the way to closing it out. During the Oct. 9 final at Natanis Golf course in Vassalboro, the Rams finished, tied for fifth place with South Portland finishing where they left off last season. This, while competing with powerhouse teams in Class A South.

The Rams put together a highly consistent round, combined for a 340 that perfectly reflected the team’s standard 18-hole pace. Charlie Sands, however, anchored the varsity lineup, carding a 76 to tie for 2nd place individually in the state. Sands was also Gorham’s top scorer at the SMAA qualifier. Once again Will Provost served as a key returning starter and veteran presence anchoring the top of the match-play rotation. Graham Staples was recognized as an essential returning core player crucial to Gorham’s competitive depth in the SMAA league.

Consistently all three athletes helped power the Rams back into a top 5-finish at the state championship. Oct. 1 concluded the regular season and was host to senior night. Coach Horgan and the parents worked seamlessly behind the scenes to support the athletes, coordinating everything from team dinners to postseason travel so the team could focus on winning.
The golf program also held their JV Jamboree at Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel to conclude the JV golf season. Hard work, teamwork, and dedication on the greens truly paid off.

The Rams postseason quest begins for the rest of the fall sports teams. Here is a brief outlook on standings.
The varsity boys soccer team is aiming to establish themselves as title contenders. A recent regular-season match up at South Portland didn’t go their way, but the adversity could be exactly what the team needs to spark a deep playoff run.

The varsity girls soccer team will await their placement after tying #15 with the Portland Bulldogs on Oct. 13. This brings them to a 5-5-2 record with two games remaining on their regular season schedule.

The field hockey team is in a similar position with a 7-6 record with one game remaining.

The volleyball team (defending 3-peat State champs) are 9-3 with two remaining matches to round out the season.

The football team defeated Cheverus mid-season and will look to gain some momentum down the stretch with homecoming in its sights.

Good luck to all of the Rams teams in the postseason.
