Crockett Furniture, formerly known as Lake Region Furniture, first opened for business in 1972 in Windham in the former Grange Hall next to Amato’s. The business moved to its current location at 673 Main St. in Gorham after the bowling alley on the site, Roberts Bowl-a-Wile, burned down in 1978. A new store was built and later the company expanded and added a new front section.

The business has always been family owned and operated by the Crockett family. The name was changed to Crockett Furniture twelve years ago to reflect their move to having more upscale furniture.

The property has been sold to the Furniture Gallery of Bangor. With the sale of the property, Steve and Scott Crockett are taking
early retirement. Steve and Scott Crockett said they “will sorely miss our loyal customers.” The store will close May 31.
