Each year the Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) recognizes two seniors from each school for outstanding contributions to their respective schools. At the annual SMAA Citizenship Banquet on Monday, April 4, two Gorham student athletes, Emily Fadrigan and Nick Munyaneza were recognized with Citizenship Awards.
Emily Fadrigan exemplifies citizenship at the highest level within the Gorham school community. A dedicated and accomplished student, she is a high honors recipient and has earned SMAA All-Academic recognition in multiple sports. Graduating near the top of her class, Emily is also a proud member of the National Honor Society.
As a valued three-sport athlete, Emily has excelled in Field Hockey, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track, earning Varsity letters in each. Beyond her athletic and academic achievements, Emily has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to service. She has volunteered countless hours with our youth field hockey program and contributed to numerous school and community initiatives, including the Interact Club, Adopt-a-Classroom, “Tatiana’s Closet,” Relay for Life, and Polar Express.

A true leader among her peers, Emily inspires others with her positive attitude, both on the field and in everyday life. Her energy and dedication are uplifting to her teammates, friends, and family alike.
The daughter of Gene and Kim, Emily will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall, where she plans to major in Business with a focus on Entrepreneurship.
Nick Munyaneza has consistently represented himself, his family, and the Gorham School community with exceptional character and integrity throughout his high school career. An honors student, Nick has managed to excel academically while actively participating in various extracurricular activities.
He is a proud member of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club, and the Dream Factory, all of which reflect his dedication to service and community engagement. As an athlete, Nick has competed in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track, earning recognition as an SMAA All-Academic and All-Conference athlete. His leadership qualities have been evident while he served as a captain in all three sports, receiving numerous team awards for his commitment and guidance.
Nick’s influence extends beyond athletics; he is a true leader among his peers and a valued member of the Gorham High School community. The son of Apollinaire and Hyacinthe, Nick will be attending St. Joseph’s College in the fall to pursue a degree in Medical Biology while continuing his athletic career in Cross Country and Track and Field.
