The Gorham Community chorus, led by John Rimkunas, held its winter concert “Prelude to Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. at McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School auditorium. Opening with Haydn’s “Achieved is the Glorious Work” the chorus sang a variety of holiday favorites old and new. Singing medleys of both American holiday classics, “A Bit of Holiday Cheer” as well as British holiday carols “Here We Come A-Caroling.”

The concert closed with a Christmas carol sing-along where audience members were encouraged to join in, singing “Joy to the World,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “Deck the Halls,” “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night,” and ending with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The Gorham Community Chorus is already looking forward to spring, with rehearsals resuming Jan. 9, 2023. Any community members interested in participating are encouraged to join. No prior chorus experience is required, just a love of singing. Singers in the chorus can expect to learn a variety of songs that can include “everything from Bach to Broadway.”

Rehearsals take place every Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the middle school auditorium. If you are interested in joining, contact director John Rimkunas via email at gorhamcommunitychorus@gmail.com.

Next up for the chorus is a performance at the upcoming New Year Gorham celebration.
