Bob Burns moved to Gorham eighteen years ago to become the Public Works Director. Originally from Yarmouth, he was “thrilled to be back in Maine”.

During his time with Public Works, Burns has been involved in numerous road reconstruction projects including the recent Main St. reconfiguration to improve the flow of traffic and to eliminate left turns on Main St. as they can be problematic.

Burns also shepherded through the transition from pay as you go bags to pay as you go tags which made economic sense for the Town, particularly as there had been a number of complaints about the poor quality of the Town’s trash bags. Burns also worked on the transition from Herrick to Casella for trash pickup.

Burns is a believer in trying new things and is “grateful to the Town of Gorham and to the Public Works crew who have put in a lot of time and energy to make the process work well”.

“This is the right time to stretch my wings and to do something different,” said Burns.

Town Manager Ephrem Paraschak commented, “We’re obviously very sad to see Bob leave Gorham and he’ll leave very big shoes to fill. He’s one of our most dedicated employees, and what he has brought to the Town over the last eighteen years as an employee and community member cannot be overstated. I’m personally happy for him as he steps into this new career path and we all wish him the best of luck”.
