Gorham Youth Soccer games are in full gear with practices during the week and Saturday game days at many locations in town; organized by age/grade level with plenty of soccer at all levels. The third/fourth grade teams have a mix of games at Great Falls school and are on the road to play kids outside of their community, including Wainwright field in South Portland and teams from the Bonny Eagle area. The participation in the Rec program and GYSA continue to rise.
“I have seen soccer grow at all levels in Gorham” said youth sports manager Travis Grant, who has been in this position now for five years.. “We have several teams in the age range of 9-year-olds and all of our teams are at full-capacity with a waiting list this year.”
These findings resonate throughout the soccer community, reaching all levels, including high school. With the significant and continued engagement and interest in soccer, many of the elementary grade school age kids attend the high school games, both home and away games. The Varsity boys soccer team are over the midway point of their season with a record of 7 – 1.
A big game for the Rams happened on a weeknight, Tuesday, Sept. 23 at South Portland High School, where the visiting Rams made the most of their chances to handle the Red Riots 5-2, thanks in large part to Moises Ntango who was involved in every goal. Cohen Landry and Will Andreasen also chipped in a goal apiece.
Both Ntango and Landry shared their thoughts on social media after the game and both agreed their team wanted it more and after a recent loss, that was all the motivation they needed. Ntango shared; “we are playing real soccer, we are one of the best teams to beat right now and will continue.”
After a recent 1 – 0 victory over the Deering Rams, this team is focused on securing the highest possible playoff seed to gain home field advantage. The Rams fans will be ready.
