For a long time, Gorham has had a good offering of art and performance programs for kids and adults. The offering for creative programs in Gorham is expanding and their locations are shifting. Art in Gorham is offered mainly with Gorham Adult Education and performance programs with the Gorham Arts Alliance.
Gorham Adult Education has night classes located in the Gorham Middle School and day classes at Creative Explorations. Courses range from Basic Drawing, Watercolor, and Ceramics to Decoupage, Stained Glass, Screen Printing among other courses. Each class can be from 1.5 to 2 hours, one day a week, over a few weeks. Some are one-day sessions on weekends. They also offer instruction classes in music and a community chorus. For more details on how to sign up for an activity go online to: http://www.gorham.maineadulted.org/. Information on pottery courses can be found at: tannerybrookpotterystudio.com.
The Gorham Arts Alliance (GAA) offers arts/theater programs at 34 School Street, the yellow building on the corner of School Street and College Ave. The GAA provides the community with a creative hub that not only hosts performances but also offers private and group music lessons, an art, and theater-focused after school program, and year-round opportunities for young performers.
Some of the GAA programs include: set design, lights/sound tech, dance, costuming/sewing, music, steel drums, visual arts, textiles as well as theater arts. They will be offering a new theater class for senior citizens in the Spring, but always welcome the involvement of adults and seniors in set design, costuming, and theater performance assistance.
GAA also offers a space for community members to join in a Chair Yoga or Jazzercise class or participate in the Gorham Senior’s Co-op programs. To find out more about what the GAA offers, email: Admin@gorhamarts.org
New to the area is Creative Explorations, which is now housed in the Wentworth facility located at 10 Wentworth Drive in Gorham.
