Maine will hold its Presidential Primary Election on March 5, 2024. The Primary for Congressional and State Legislature seats will take place on June 11.  Visit maine.gov for the full 2024 election calendar.

Registration: 

Registration by Mail: Feb. 13 is the last day to register by mail to vote in the March 5 Presidential Primary. Download and print the registration card. Fill it out and mail it to your municipal registrar’s office  so that it is received by Feb. 13.

Registration in Person: You can register in person up until 8 pm on Election Day at your  municipal registrar’s office city hall, or any motor vehicle branch office.

Pre-registering to Vote: You can pre-register to vote at the age of 16. You may vote in Primary Elections at 17 if you will be 18 years old by General Election Day (Nov. 5).

Absentee Ballots

Ballot Request Deadline: March 2 is the last day for your ballot request for the March 5 Primary to be received by your  municipal registrar’s office. Don’t wait until the deadline! You may be cutting it too close given mailing and processing time. The US Postal Service recommends requesting your ballot no later than 15 days prior to Election Day.

Ballot Returns: Completed absentee ballots can be dropped off or returned by mail to your  municipal registrar’s office. They must be received by 8 pm on Election Day.

Early Voting:

Sunday, Feb. 10, through Thursday, Feb. 29, is the early voting period for the March 5 Presidential Primary. You may cast your ballot early in person at your local election office or an early vote site. Check your  municipal registrar  for early voting times and locations for your local elections.
