The Gorham Rams baseball team carried their historic momentum straight into the summer months following a dramatic, 11-inning victory over Bangor on June 20, 2026, to capture the program’s first-ever Class A state championship. Once again, they dominated the summer wood bat league. Gorham has won three out of the last four Edge Academy Summer League Wood Bat championships.

This year the final game was rained out and would unfortunately not be rescheduled due to prior commitments playing out of town; therefore, Gorham and Falmouth were named co-champions. Gorham ended the summer season with a 14-0 record while Falmouth was 13-2.

Key players from the Gorham championship teams include Hunter Finck, Preston Brown and Cooper Whitehead, who will all be returning to the Rams squad. Brown is a key cornerstone infielder and clutch hitter. Whitehead (the Rams catcher, moving seamlessly from outfield) is the team’s notorious sparkplug that helped propel the Rams all season long.

Other key players returning are Sawyer Smith (clutch outfielder) and Bennett Deveaux (utility infielder and pitcher). Miles Brenner and Wyatt Washburn graduated this past June and will be moving on but were key players in the past championship runs. Both Brenner and Washburn will be taking their talent to the next level: Brenner is a Wheaton College commit and Washburn is a Colby College recruit. Hunter Finck (Jr) was named Varsity Maine Player of the Year and Miles Brenner (Sr) and Finck were both named to the All-State team.

According to Maine Lightning’s Instagram page, Finck won the 2026 Gatorade Maine Baseball Player of the Year and the Alabama commit is widely regarded as one of the most dominant hitters in the state. His power routinely translates seamlessly from aluminum to the wooden bats of the summer circuit.
