Family and friends filled the stands at the Costello Sports complex/Hill Gym in Gorham February 16 to highlight the University of Southern Maine Women’s basketball senior night. The senior night celebrated the team’s last regular-season home game hosting UMass Boston.

Michelle Rowe (GHS ’18) is a senior guard for the Huskies. Rowe had standout numbers in her last regular-season game racking up 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The team celebrated the win and prepared for their road trip to Connecticut during Presidents Day weekend to close out the Little East Conference regular-season portion of its schedule with back- to-back wins, and three of its last four according to a recent USM press release. The Huskies had played 9 games in 14 days prior to the road game.

Southern Maine completed the LEC regular season with a record of 7-7 and was unable to play a full LEC schedule due to COVID-related scheduling challenges, a similar story all sports teams faced this season. It was determined by the LEC’s athletic directors earlier this season that all nine teams would play in the tournament.

The Huskies will host the LEC Championship Quarterfinal with Keene State traveling to Gorham.

Southern Maine won both of its games against Keene State in the regular season, downing the Owls on the road (Dec 4) and at home (Jan 22). In the Huskies road game (Dec 4), Rowe had a career-high 24 points, including 7 rebounds, leading all scorers in that game.

Rowe is a player to watch for the Quarterfinal game. One last event this spring for seniors is Honors Night. This event highlights departing seniors, celebrating their collegiate careers. Rowe and her senior teammates have a lot to celebrate.
